Chong Khneas
This village is the closest to Siem Reap and is the most visited. During the rainy season, the village is very submerged: houses, shops, schools, etc. sway on the water. Even though the place is a little touristy, it's interesting to see it. You can buy souvenirs, food and drink and visit the Gecko Environment Center to learn more about the flora, fauna and traditional activities of communities.

Kampong Khleang
To access this village, take the boat from Phnom Krom pier for about 2 hours. Visited by some tourists, it is the village with the largest number of inhabitants (about 15,000) among all the other villages on the lake. The village center, which is actually an island, is occupied by markets, shops, pagodas and schools. You will be able to see residents still following century-old traditions by preparing smoked and dried fish that will be sold in stores throughout Cambodia and Southeast Asia.

Kampong Phluk
It is a group of three villages of stilt houses built in the floodplain Tonle Sap 16 km from Siem Reap. It's not really a floating village, because houses are built on stilts. During the dry season, the village is high and dry, with houses on high stilts bordering the road. When the water level is high, the piles are submerged and the houses seem to float. You can go boating through the flooded forest. About 3000 inhabitants live here surrounded by a mangrove forest where many animals are housed, including crab-eating macaques.

Prek Toal village
This village is little smaller than the others. This is the starting point for the bird watching tour. This is usually why it is visited. It is an important habitat for many endangered bird species.
